1.2379 is a Swedish martensitic stainless chrome steel, developed specifically for knife blades. It is considered one of the best budget and mid-range steels on the market. It is distinguished by the added nitrogen (N), which increases corrosion resistance and allows high hardness without microcracks on the cutting edge.
- Chromium (Cr): 14.0% – ensures high rust resistance.
- Carbon (C): 0.62% – is responsible for the hardness and retention of the cutting edge.
- Manganese (Mn): 0.60% – increases strength and wear resistance.
- Silicon (And): 0.20% – improves the strength and elasticity of the material.
- Nitrogen (N): 0.11% – purifies the structure and strengthens corrosion resistance.
- Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.025% – minimal impurities for a clean structure.
